The Thrill of Off-Roading Builds Camaraderie.

Veterans tend to be adventurous and are often drawn to activities that challenge them and build connections with others. Military recruiting slogans like “Join the Navy, See the World” played into that spirit of adventure. I remember considering my enlistment and being enticed by the promise of beaches, foreign travel, and the opportunity to serve my country in a meaningful way.

That same sense of adventure inspired a group of off-road enthusiasts to create Arizona SXS Adrenaline Therapy, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting veterans, military personnel, and first responders through outdoor recreation.

“We understand that veterans, military personnel, and first responders face different stressors, triggers, and challenges daily. That’s why we strive to help them relax and care for their mental health through outdoor fun. Our nonprofit was born out of a shared love for Arizona’s beauty and a passion for trail riding. We are a diverse group of civilians and veterans from all corners of the state, brought together by the thrill of off-roading and the camaraderie it fosters,” says Jeffery D. Kelley, CEO and Founder.

Arizona SXS Adrenaline Therapy believes adventure and adrenaline can provide healing and solace. Their nonprofit offers veterans, first responders, and active military personnel the chance to experience the excitement of trail riding while immersing themselves in Arizona’s stunning landscapes and forming lasting friendships.

Founded in 2022, the organization hosts various events, including trail rides, parades, fundraisers, exhibits, and collaborations with veteran-support organizations. Their next event, a 60-mile round-trip side-by-side ride to Vulture Mine Ghost Town, is scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025. Participants will explore the historic ghost town for an hour before returning to Dillion’s for dinner. The event is sponsored by Brian Lockwood, Director of Operations at JT THORPE, a company that actively supports veterans through various initiatives and specializes in fireproofing, coatings, epoxy flooring, scaffolding, and insulation.

The ride is free for veterans and first responders, but advance registration is required. To learn more or sign up, visit their events page online at https://arizonasxsadrenalinetherapy.org/.
